We had such a wonderful vacation to the Hill Country. We drove to Lake Colorado just outside Austin our first day. We played for several hours there with the kids. Greg, Canyon, River all practiced swimming to help River get ready for his mile swim at his scout camp in a few weeks. It was so nice just to enjoy seeing water again. We quickly grabbed some pizza and went down to Congress Bridge and watch 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats fly out at night. This is one of Austin's biggest tour attractions. We went to church on Sunday and went to Capital Hill and toured around. After Congress Hill we hiked Mount Bonnell. We finished our hike and everybody was thirsty and hungry and the car wouldn't start. We tried boosting' it with 2 other vehicles but no luck. We had to call a tow truck and he was able to boost it. We went to Auto Zone and our battery was no good. Our kids were so cute wanting to offer prayers often. Luckily it was just the battery and nothing else. We headed to Zilker Park for a free outdoor play. We left a little early and walked around the park a little. The next day we returned to Zilker Park and rented kayaks and canoes and paddled down the River that goes right through Austin. It was so pretty. We then jumped on a train that took us all around the park. After the train ride we let the kids play on the playground. It soon got hot and we all went and cooled off at the Barton Springs Pool there. My kids loved it because everyone brought there dogs and played fetch with them. It was a really fun environment. The next day we went to New Braunfels and went to the Natural Bridge Caverns there. While we waited for our tour Ireland and Ridge went zip lining. They loved it! We took a tour through the caves and then went to the African Safari. It was a little different from the last one we went to with the giraffes being caged up. They did have a ton of zebras eating right out of our hands. One zebra snatched the whole bag of food out of my lap while I was trying to take pictures. Good thing I have quick reflexes because I stole it right back. The kids all had fun at the petting zoo feeding and brushing the animals. We had a few hours to spare so we went to Landa Park and threw Frisbees around and then rented some paddle boats and went for a ride. The next day we went to San Antonio Sea World. We have been there several times but only when Oakley was a baby. He really enjoyed it. We still can't get River on roller coasters no matter the bribe. We went to San Marcos the next day and enjoyed the water slides at schlitterbahn for 10 hours. We headed home Friday with a few stops to do some shopping. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to plan our next trip. Hopefully next summer will be South Padre Island.
